Leke Adeboye speaks, “I am not aiming to become GO”

Pastor Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shut down the speculation that he is positioning himself to succeed his father as the next General Overseer of the church.
While speaking during a recent programme, Leke Adeboye made it clear that he has no ambition to take over the leadership of the RCCG, describing the role as an enormous spiritual burden.
“I am not aiming to become the General Overseer of RCCG. It’s a lot to carry, especially when you see it from the backend,” he said.
The pastor explained that many people only see the public side of leadership and fail to understand the deep spiritual responsibility that comes with it.
According to him, his commitment to supporting his father is driven by a strong sense of accountability before God, not ambition.
“A time will come when we will all give account to the Lord. The access you have, the positions you have, were given to you,” he said.
Addressing questions about why he is deeply involved in ensuring Pastor Adeboye remains strong and active despite his age, Leke offered a sobering explanation.
“Some people ask me why I am pushing to ensure our father in the Lord is able to surprise us like he did in September. My understanding is simple: I know I will give account when I get to heaven,” he stated.
He stressed again that being the son of the GO does not automatically translate to aspiring for the office.
“You were the GO’s son, and I’m not aiming to be the GO. It’s a lot to carry,” he reiterated.
Leke Adeboye painted a vivid picture of the sacrifices behind the role, citing his father’s continued discipline and spiritual labour even in his 80s.
“At 83, 84, when your mates are chilling and retiring, you are still doing dry fasts. You are waking up by 3:00am for prayer walks,” he said.
He added that the weight of responsibility is immense, noting that Pastor Adeboye oversees more than 20,000 churches, alongside the wider body of Christ that looks up to him for spiritual covering.
“There are thousands of churches on one side, and the entire body of Christ calling you ‘father’ and saying, ‘pray for us’,” he said.
Leke Adeboye concluded by stressing that his actions are guided by the consciousness that leadership in God’s kingdom comes with eternal accountability, not earthly ambition.
