MC Oluomo, National President of NURTW, has regained control of the Abuja secretariat after rival faction briefly took over, inspecting damages and urging calm
Musiliu Akinsanya, National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, on Tuesday regained control of the union’s national secretariat in Abuja, following a brief takeover by a rival faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa.
A video posted by TVC on X showed Akinsanya visiting the secretariat to assess property damaged during the takeover.
The faction led by Baruwa had occupied the facility on Monday, citing court rulings in their favour.
Speaking to journalists, Baruwa said: “We are taking over in a peaceful manner, not forcefully, carrying out the court’s orders.” He claimed that one of his members was attacked during the process, but the situation remained under control.
In response, Akinsanya described the incident as a “forceful takeover” and noted that due legal processes were ongoing.
He stated he was not a defendant in the judgment cited by Baruwa and that the ruling had been appealed with a stay of execution in place.
“The National President wishes to inform members and the public that Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya remains the National President of NURTW,” the statement read.
He urged union members to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as the dispute unfolds.
