NSCDC Lagos Holds Stakeholders Forum on Infrastructure Protection, Urges Scrap Dealers to Self-Regulate

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos State Command, Area D, brought together community stakeholders on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Badagry to address the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure across Otto-Awori, Ojo, Iba, Olohunda, and Badagry divisions.

The engagement focused on safeguarding vital sectors including oil and gas, transportation, power, telecommunications, education, and healthcare—all central to the NSCDC’s statutory mandate and the nation’s socio-economic development.

Commandant General Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi continues to champion both operational and community-based strategies to combat vandalism, illegal dredging, unauthorized mining, and sabotage of national resources.

Lagos State Commandant Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, represented by Deputy Commandant Kolawole Agbetiloye, Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department, emphasized the importance of grassroots dialogue in tackling these challenges. He called on the Scrap Dealers Association of Badagry West, led by Chairman Mr. Ibrahim Dogo, to actively regulate members’ activities and deregister violators to preserve the association’s integrity.

Honourable Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren, Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area, commended the initiative, stressing the need for community support to enable security agencies to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

The Agoloto of Badagry, Dr. Hundogan, speaking for traditional rulers, endorsed the forum as a positive step and clarified that traditional institutions in the area do not shelter criminal elements.

Group Captain Humphrey Magudu, Commander of 653 Nigerian Air Force Station, praised the NSCDC for fostering inter-agency cooperation and urged more such forums to develop lasting solutions to vandalism. Comptroller Wale Adenuga of Seme Border Customs Command echoed this sentiment, advocating for continued sensitization programs while highlighting the unity among security agencies in Badagry.

Comrade Aladeotan David of the National Youth Council of Nigeria pledged youth support for asset protection efforts but urged the Corps to increase youth inclusion in programs to harness their contribution to community security and progress.

Mr. Ibrahim Dogo, Chairman of the Scrap Dealers Association, committed to collaborating with NSCDC and relevant agencies to sanction and remove erring members.

Area Commander Assistant Commandant Salisu Daura, alongside divisional officers and personnel, engaged with participants’ questions during the forum. Divisional Officer Chief Superintendent Ekunola Gbenga assured attendees of open communication channels and provided contact information for public access.

The event received goodwill messages from representatives of multiple agencies and organizations, including the Nigerian Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and various community development associations.
