NSIB, FRSC collaborate by signing MoU to boost road safety
Partnership – The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau and the Federal Road Safety Corps have entered a new strategic partnership aimed at improving road safety across the country.
The partnership was signed on Wednesday in Abuja, according to a statement signed by the bureau’s spokesperson, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, and made available to journalists on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Director-General of the NSIB, Capt. Alex Badeh, said the agreement was part of a broader initiative to expand safety investigations across all modes of transportation including; road, aviation, maritime, and rail.
He said, “This collaboration is designed to raise the bar on transportation safety in Nigeria.
“By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to strengthen accident investigations and enforcement, ensuring more effective prevention of future incidents.”
He praised the FRSC for its recent improvements in road safety enforcement and emergency responsiveness, noting that the partnership would enable NSIB to provide more targeted safety recommendations to support the FRSC’s operations.
“The collaboration will ensure safety protocols are regularly updated to reflect emerging transportation challenges.
“It’s a crucial step toward fostering a comprehensive and proactive safety culture,” Badeh added
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized the significance of the MoU, noting that transport safety extends far beyond aviation.
He said, “Our goal is to make Nigeria’s entire transport environment safer, from roads to railways.
“This partnership will strengthen our ability to protect lives on the roads and promote a more coordinated approach to safety.”
With the agreement now in place, both agencies will work closely to implement new safety measures, especially targeting road transport, a means of transportation that continues to witness frequent accidents.
Key elements of the initiative include standardising investigation procedures, enhancing accountability, and improving real-time response to incidents.
The NSIB will contribute its technical expertise in accident investigation, while the FRSC will bring its operational capacity in road safety enforcement to the fore.
