Oyindamola Adejumo-Ayibiowu, Baba Sala’s daughter celebrates 20 years of debut gospel album with remix
Daughter of the late legendary comedian Baba Sala, Oyindamola Adejumo-Ayibiowu, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut gospel album, High Rise, with a special remake of one of its standout tracks.
A gospel music artist, writer, and development economist, Oyindamola has had a notable career spanning over 25 years.
Oyindamola is marking this milestone with a 20th-anniversary remake of her song, “Werewere.”
She originally wrote the song in 1996 as a university student.
In a statement released on Sunday, she reflected on the song’s significance and its new rendition.
“My first album, High Rise, released in 2004, remains special to me,” she said.
The statement further read, “Not just because it touched lives, but because of how widely it circulated. It’s still evergreen.”
“Werewere” holds a special place in her heart, as it served as the theme song for the first-ever concert by the Oratorio Music Foundation, which she founded in 1996.
“Werewere was one of my earliest compositions. When I recorded it in 2004, I never imagined I would revisit it 20 years later with fresh eyes,” she explained.
The new remake is specifically targeted at a younger audience, particularly Generation Z.
Oyindamola collaborated with young creatives for this project.
“Both the audio and video were produced by Gen Z creatives.
“It’s my way of bridging generations, honouring where we started, while embracing where we are now,” she explained.
The video for the 20th-anniversary remake is set to be released on Sunday (today).
