… will ensure Lagos sustain its participation in future CIPM conferences and programmes.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to human capital development, pledging to sustain public servants’ participation in the programmes of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) beyond his tenure.
The governor gave the assurance when he received a delegation of CIPM, led by its President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, at the State House, Marina, Lagos, during his formal decoration as a Fellow of the Institute.
Sanwo-Olu said human capital development remained a central pillar of his administration’s development agenda, stressing the importance of continuous learning, professional excellence and capacity building in strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery.
He disclosed that he would ensure Lagos State sustained its participation in future CIPM conferences and programmes, adding that the commitment would be included in his handover note to the next administration to guarantee continuity in workforce development.
The governor commended CIPM for its contributions to the advancement of human resource management and professional development in Nigeria, describing the Institute as a critical partner in building the capacity of the nation’s workforce.
He also praised the successful hosting of CIPM’s 58th International Conference and Exhibition, noting that the annual gathering provides a platform for knowledge sharing, professional development and capacity building for public and private sector employees.
Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction with the growing number of Lagos State public servants embracing CIPM membership and professional development opportunities.
He commended the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, for promoting professionalism within the civil service and encouraging public servants to develop their skills and competencies through recognised professional institutions.
Reflecting on his conferment as a Fellow of CIPM, the governor praised the Institute’s rigorous membership and fellowship process, noting that the honour was credible because it was based on merit.
“The process shows that CIPM does not just confer Fellowship on anyone, but on those who truly deserve it,” he stated.
Earlier, Gobir congratulated Sanwo-Olu on his conferment as a Fellow of the Institute, commending his support for human capital development and the advancement of the human resource management profession.
He explained that the fellowship award recognises distinguished professionals and leaders who have met the Institute’s prescribed professional and leadership requirements.
The CIPM president also disclosed that more than 500 Lagos State civil servants participated in the Institute’s recently concluded 58th International Conference and Exhibition, making the state the largest participant at the event.
He described the turnout as evidence of Lagos State’s commitment to workforce development and continuous learning, adding that deliberate investment in people could strengthen institutions and improve public sector performance.
Gobir also acknowledged the contributions of the state’s civil service leadership to fostering a culture of professionalism and lifelong learning.
The visit underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between Lagos State and CIPM in strengthening workforce capacity, promoting professional excellence and advancing human capital development as a driver of economic growth and effective governance.
