The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborivwori, on Monday the 8th of June visited the proposed site of Stars University and Mount Ned Nwoko Tourist and Cultural Centre located in Idumuje Ugboko, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State.

The Speaker and his entourage were conducted round the ongoing construction site of the university and the international Golf Centre which includes the University Cafeteria, the administrative block/faculty building and lecture halls, staff quarters, the boys and girls’ hostels, engineering workshop, waterworks and Agricultural department, comprising poultry, piggery and fishery sections, the zoo and other historical/cultural features in Mount Ned Nwoko Tourism and Cultural Centre.

While conducting his visitors round the gigantic school facility, the Chairman and founder of Stars University of Sports, Prince Ned Nwoko, told them that the university was conceived to carter for the educational needs of Nigerian sportsmen and women and to give them opportunities to study and participate fully in sports.

He said that the university will as a matter of priority, offer double honour degree courses as well as give the student-athletes the opportunity to study sports related courses combined with conventional courses as a major incentive in helping them to create career choices and qualifications that would aid their abilities to migrate to different professional areas of choice.
Furthermore, the former Member of the Federal House of Representatives added that one of the major reasons the country is not doing very well in sports both at the local and international levels is fact that the country lack qualified personnel to handle vital areas of the sports sector and this is the gap Stars University of Sports have come to fill as the University is poised to change the face of sporting in Africa, with the promise of harnessing the huge potentials of our sportsmen and women.

Our desire, Ned Nwoko continues, is to provide opportunities for athletes to participate in sports to the best of their abilities while pursuing careers of their choice as Stars University would offer courses covering, Sports Psychology, Coaching Technology, Sports Marketing, Sports Communication, Sports Administration and organization with conventional courses such as Law, Engineering, Accountancy and Information Technology.
Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oborivwori, said that he was very satisfied with what he saw on ground and commended Prince Ned Nwoko for his foresights and developmental strides, especially his commitment to tourism, sports, health, environment and educational development, noting that the university will not only provide jobs and boost the local economy of the host community, but will enrich the tourism potentials of Delta State.
Oborivwori stated further that, many sportsmen and women from within country and outside the country will come Idumuje-Ugboko to study in the university, a venture that will in no small measure, boost the tourism potential of the state aside creating jobs and increasing businesses in the host communities. A worthy endeavour we must not only acknowledge, but appreciate and celebrate.
