The former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke was declared the winner of the election on Sunday after polling 511,067 votes across the state.
The incumbent governor, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11.
The governor recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo, among others.
Obasanjo’s visit came hours after Adeleke was officially declared winner of the keenly contested poll, securing a fresh mandate to lead the state for another four years.
