Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has visited victims of the recent attacks in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, assuring residents of intensified security measures as authorities work to track down suspected suicide bombers reportedly still at large.
During the visit, the governor expressed concern over the security situation and the impact of the attacks on affected communities, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability. “We are deeply saddened by the incident and the suffering it has caused our people. Security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent further attacks,” he said.
Zulum noted that preliminary intelligence suggested that some of the perpetrators may still be within the surrounding areas, prompting a coordinated response involving the military and other security agencies. “There are indications that some of the attackers are yet to be apprehended. We are working closely with security operatives to ensure they are tracked and neutralised,” he added.
The governor also used the opportunity to commiserate with families of the victims, directing relevant state agencies to provide immediate humanitarian assistance, including medical care for the injured and relief materials for displaced persons. He assured residents that efforts were underway to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering across vulnerable communities.
Residents of Ngoshe and neighboring settlements have reportedly been living in fear following the incident, with many calling for increased security presence in the area. Community leaders appealed for sustained military patrols and improved communication between security forces and local vigilante groups.
Zulum reiterated that the state government would not relent in its collaboration with federal security agencies to combat insurgency and protect lives and property. “We will continue to support our security forces and ensure that our communities are safeguarded against threats. The safety of our people remains our top priority,” he stated.
The latest development underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Borno State, despite sustained military operations against insurgent groups in the North-East region, with authorities maintaining vigilance to forestall further incidents.
