Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Rena Wakama-led side beat Mali in the final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville to clinch their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title, becoming the first country in history to achieve the feat.

With the win, D’Tigress also extended their unbeaten run in the competition to a decade, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s basketball.

Reacting in a post on X on Sunday, Tinubu praised the team for their performance and national pride.

“Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall.

“Well done, Coach Rena and the team. You have made Nigeria proud. I am expecting you all, along with the trophy.

    “#MissionV – Done & Dusted,” he wrote.

Before the final, Tinubu had dispatched a high-level presidential delegation to Abidjan to show support for the team. The delegation was led by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko.

Other members of the delegation included the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Kabiru Ahmadu; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman; Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Sunday Dare; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications and New Media Strategy, O’tega Ogra; Senior Special Assistant (Office of the Chief of Staff), Oyinade Nathan-Marsh; and Senior Special Assistant (Office of the First Lady), Kukoyi Olubusola.

Also congratulating the team, Senator Oluremi Tinubu hailed D’Tigress for their discipline, team spirit, and inspiration to young Nigerian girls.

She said, “To God be the Glory for yet another victory for Nigeria as you bring home the second trophy won by the nation in two weeks.

“Today, you have written another golden chapter in our dear Nation’s sporting history by defeating Mali to win your fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

“With this win, you have showcased once again, the unwavering commitment and determination of Nigerian women on the global stage. You have continued to inspire every young girl to dream of breaking barriers and making history through hard work and dedication.

“I celebrate you, your discipline, and team spirit. Thank you for making Nigeria proud once again. Congratulations, my wonderful D’Tigress!”
