9th National Youth Games Declared Open in Asaba – FG

President Bola Tinubu has declared opened the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, giving assurance of his commitment to investing in sports development across the country.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Public Communication and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, Tinubu assured attendees of his administration’s recognition of sports as a vital tool for fostering national unity.

He emphasised the importance of the National Youth Games (NYG) in talent discovery, highlighting its role in showcasing individuals who have made the country proud at both national and international sporting events.

The President also expressed confidence in the ability of the Chairman of the National Youth Commission (NYC), Shehu Dikko, and the Director General of the Commission, Bukola Olopade to continue elevating Nigeria’s stature in the sporting arena.

Tinubu extended his gratitude to the government and people of Delta State for hosting the 9th edition of the National Youth Games.

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering athletes and enhancing sports facilities throughout the state.

Represented by the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor assured attendees that the State would continue to be a welcoming host as a home to many athletes that represent the country in various national and international sporting events.

“This is more than just a sporting event, it is a celebration of our youth, unity, and the nation’s promising future in sports, which brings us together as one people,” stated Oborevwori.

Olopade noted that significant progress had been made under the leadership of Dikko.

He disclosed that the 9th NYG offers opportunity to celebrate, discover, and nurture the nation’s talented youth as future stars who will represent Nigeria.

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 9th NYG and Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, assured that the state would provide a memorable hosting experience, highlighting the facilities and preparations made for over six thousand athletes.
