Remo Stars, Abia Warriors and Niger Tornadoes made significant gains in the
Match-day 11 midweek matches of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played across the various centres yesterday.
Remo Stars who made it two wins from two games in the second stanza of the abridged NPFL season were the only team that won away yesterday.
Goals from Andrew Okpe in 60th minute and captain Nduka Junior in 87th minute gave the Ikenne club victory over El Kanemi Warriors.
The hope of the Maiduguri team staying up in the NPFL next season are becoming slimmer by each passing game as they are eight points away from safety with seven games to go.
In Benin City, the clash of leaders in Group A between Bendel Insurance and Akwa United failed to produce a winner after both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Insurance were quickest off the block, taking the lead in the 2nd minute with in-form striker, Imade Osarenkhoe scoring. However Akwa United equalised before half time through Cyril Olisema in the 38th minute. Both teams created lots of chances but were unable to convert any as the game ended in a draw.
In Group B, Niger Tornadoes moved up to fourth on the log after 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists. David Okouromi gave Tornadoes the lead in the 22nd minute while Mark Daniel sealed the win with a second half stoppage time goal. Tornadoes are level on points with Abia Warriors on 18 points but are not in the playoff spots yet due to inferior goal difference.
Wikki have by this defeat slipped into the relegation zone, and are 9th on the Group B standings.
