Founded by Nigerian-born technology entrepreneur Toritseju Edema-Sillo, Sportlaze combines live scores, fan conversations, predictions and AI insights, with an initial focus on Africa’s football communities.
A fan checks the score in one app, moves to another to discuss the match, and opens a third to follow a favourite creator. Sportlaze was built to bring those experiences together, giving fans somewhere to follow the game and connect before, during and after the final whistle.
Now available on the web, Apple’s App Store and Google Play, Sportlaze is an AI-powered social platform for sports fans. Starting with football, it brings match information, fan communities, creator content and interactive activities into one place.
For founder Toritseju Edema-Sillo, the inspiration is also personal: the atmosphere of a football viewing centre, where strangers become part of the same conversation through a goal, a controversial decision or a shared allegiance.
“Some of the best moments in football happen between the fans,” said Edema-Sillo, founder and CEO of Sportlaze. “It is the celebration, the debate and the friend who never lets you forget a wrong prediction. We built Sportlaze to give those moments a home, wherever people are watching.”
A place to follow the game and join the conversation
Sportlaze’s Football Lounges allow fans to follow live scores, fixtures, results and match statistics while discussing the action with other supporters. Fans can share posts, join communities and follow verified creators through dedicated channels.
The platform also gives users ways to participate beyond watching a match. Fans can predict results, build and share their own starting eleven with Lineup Builder, take on challenges and test their football knowledge through daily trivia. Leaderboards recognise participation and performance, giving supporters another reason to return between fixtures.
LazeAI, the platform’s AI sports assistant, helps users explore sports questions, statistics and match context. It gives fans an additional way to understand the game and contribute to the conversation.
“You should be able to open Sportlaze even when there is no match on and still find something worth joining,” Edema-Sillo said. “That could be a football debate, a trivia challenge, a creator’s post or someone sharing the lineup they think their club should play.”
Predictions built around participation
Sportlaze’s match predictions are designed for entertainment and community engagement. Users do not stake money, and Experience Points, known as XP, have no cash value.
The platform also offers airtime rewards through its rewards programme, subject to eligibility and programme rules.
“Sport is bigger than betting,” Edema-Sillo said. “There are fans who want to test their knowledge, compete with friends and enjoy the game without putting money on the line. We want them to feel part of the action too.”
Starting in Africa, building for a global audience
Sportlaze’s initial growth strategy focuses on Nigeria and the wider African market, where football brings together deeply engaged communities across countries and generations.
The company has signed a marketing agreement with Pulse Sports Nigeria to support visibility and engagement as it grows its audience.
“A fan in Lagos and a fan in Raleigh can be watching the same match and feeling the same excitement,” he said. “Sportlaze gives them a place to share it. We are starting with football and building from there.”
Built around people
Edema-Sillo is a Nigerian-American technology leader, born in Nigeria and based in the United States. A Cloud Engineer and Architect with more than eight years of experience, he also holds a medical degree (MD). His medical training shaped his approach to building Sportlaze: understand people’s needs first, then build around them. That perspective informed the platform’s focus on participation, community and shared experiences.
What comes next
As its community grows, Sportlaze plans to expand into additional sports and develop more opportunities for creators and verified sports brands.
Future plans include a fan engagement API that developers can use to build connected sports experiences, and a Sportlaze marketplace for verified sports brands.
The company welcomes conversations with creators, clubs and brands interested in community partnerships, campaigns and sponsorship opportunities.
“I want Sportlaze to feel like the best seat in the viewing centre,” Edema-Sillo said. “Wherever you are in the world, you should never have to watch alone.”
