As part of post-International Women’s Day celebrations, 10 young Nigerian women have been selected for high-level technology internships by PalmPay, following the completion of a “Tech Masterclass” held earlier this month.
The initiative, branded as the PalmPay Purple Woman programme, aims to provide practical exposure and mentorship to emerging female talent in Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem. Participants were evaluated based on performance during the masterclass, which focused on coding, digital innovation, and financial technology applications.
A spokesperson for PalmPay said the programme is designed to empower women with hands-on experience in technology and bridge the gender gap in the sector. “We are thrilled to offer these opportunities to talented young women. The internships will allow them to apply the skills they learned during the masterclass in real-world tech environments,” the spokesperson said.
The selected interns will be attached to various departments within PalmPay, including product development, software engineering, and digital solutions, where they will work alongside experienced professionals and gain exposure to high-level projects.
One of the participants expressed excitement at the opportunity, saying, “Being chosen for this internship is a huge milestone. It gives me the chance to grow my skills, learn from experts, and contribute to innovative projects in fintech.”
PalmPay noted that the Purple Woman programme is part of a broader commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in technology, particularly encouraging young women to pursue careers in fields traditionally dominated by men.
The company added that initiatives like these are critical to nurturing local talent and equipping the next generation of female leaders with the tools needed to thrive in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Through this programme, PalmPay aims to continue fostering innovation, professional development, and gender equality within the country’s tech sector, creating pathways for young women to excel in technology-driven careers.
