    Four African organizations recognized in the 2024 Schwab Foundation Awards

    Across the globe, the Schwab Foundation recently honored 16 organizations for their extraordinary efforts in promoting fair access to healthcare, education, finance, and legal services, empowering youth and women, and mitigating the effects of climate change. 4 of the 16 organizations recognized were Africans.

    Four African organizations were honored among 16 global champions.

    These Africans and their organizations were recognized by the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards.

    They were honored for their impactful contributions to healthcare, education, finance, and climate change mitigation.

    The era humanity is currently faced with is marred by unprecedented levels of social complexities. As a result, social innovation stands out as a beacon of hope and transformation.

    Its ability to address complex issues, promote inclusivity, drive economic growth, encourage sustainability, and foster collaboration makes it an indispensable force for positive change. Fortunately, this idea has numerous global champions. People who in their own right have done an exceptional job in making the world a better place today than it was prior.

    Additionally, it is also a fortunate occurrence that these people’s efforts have not gone unrecognized. Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards is a program that recognizes and honors organizations that have made significant strides in promoting the idea of social innovation.

    According to the group, “the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards recognize 16 organizations joining a global community of 477 change leaders directly improving the lives of 891 million people.”

    Hilde Schwab, Co-Founder and Chairperson of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship noted that this year’s award cuts through a diverse group of individuals and careers.

    She stated; “The Social Innovators of the Year 2024 represent a diverse group of entrepreneurs and innovators who are driving the change we need to create a more sustainable, inclusive future. The collective potential of this community offers a beacon of hope for acting with purpose and collaboration during uncertain times.”

    With that said below are the African organizations recognized by the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards.

    Four Africans and their organizations mentioned by the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards

    (Mohamed) Amine Zariat: Hailing from Morocco Amine Zariat is the founder of Tibu Africa, a non-governmental organization that is pioneering social innovation through sport. As a former athlete, he aims to unlock the potential of young people and women across the continent and has the vision to become the locomotive of development through sport in Africa by 2030.

    Gerald Abil: He is the head of BarefootLaw, a nonprofit organization that promotes access to justice in Africa and provides free legal information to the public via cutting-edge digital technology. Via BarefootLaw, this Ugandan has committed himself to assisting individuals and communities by providing pro bono legal advice and representation from a full-time staff of qualified attorneys, assisted by an AI lawyer named Winnie.

    Temie Giwa-Tubosun: is the Chief Executive Officer of LifeBank Group an organization based in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia. It also operates in 11 cities across these 3 countries. Originating from Nigeria, LifeBank offers comprehensive services to healthcare facilities across several sectors, encompassing blood, oxygen, medical supplies, and equipment delivery.

    Financing Alliance for Health: This organization is headed by Kenya’s Angela Gichaga. The Financial Alliance for Health is an African-led alliance that works with governments, funders, and the business sector to solve systemic financial problems associated with growing primary and community health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa.
