Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

Censors Board, Digital Platform Owners Collaborate On Film Classification And Distribution

Censors Board and digital space platform owners collaborate on film classification and distribution

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, collaborates with platform owners to ensure that only classified films and videos are distributed on their channels or platforms.

The executive director of the Board, Dr. Husseini Shaibu, was said to have disclosed this at a Round Table Forum in Lagos.

In a statement released by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Ogbonna Onwumere, Hussein spoke at the forum organised by the NFVCB with the theme, ‘Morality and Ethics in Film Production in Nigeria.’

He disclosed that “the Board and the platform owners are working on a protocol that will require any film or video work produced in Nigeria or imported into the country to be classified by the Board before it can be uploaded on any platform”.

According to him, the Board is working assiduously to ensure that it puts in place all the required infrastructures to meet the stakeholders’ demands before it implements the regime of mandatory content classification on digital platforms.

He reminded the filmmakers to classify their films and video works.

“The law says we are responsible for both analogue and digital distribution in Nigeria,” he declared, admonishing filmmakers to submit films or videos for classification before uploading them to streaming platforms.

Teco Benson, well known movie director and filmmaker, reassured of the filmmakers’ commitment to submit their films, musicals, and skits for classification.

But he questioned the figures posted recently by the NFVCB, stating that they did not reflect the total number of films produced in the country as at the time.
