LG Donates Solar-Powered Borehole, Enhancing Access to Clean Water In Kano Community

In a bold move to tackle the pressing issue of clean water access, LG Electronics has unveiled a solar-powered borehole for the Kawaji Saunar MamaU community in Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria. This initiative is part of LG’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, which is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and elevating the quality of life for underserved communities.

Residents in various rural areas of Kano have long faced the daunting challenge of obtaining potable water, often trekking for miles to unreliable sources. The introduction of this solar-powered borehole is set to be a game-changer, offering a dependable and sustainable water supply right within their reach.

The commissioning ceremony drew LG representatives, local leaders, and community members, all united in celebrating this vital project. The event highlighted the significance of clean water access and showcased how corporate partnerships can effectively address urgent community needs.

What makes this borehole particularly remarkable is its innovative use of solar energy. Unlike traditional systems that depend on electricity or manual pumping, this solar-powered borehole harnesses the abundant sunlight in Kano to pump water from underground sources. This not only ensures a reliable supply but also keeps operational costs low.

At the ceremony, Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, expressed the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and community empowerment: “Water is a basic necessity. At LG, we are dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance lives. By integrating solar power into this project, we guarantee that the community will enjoy long-term access to clean water without the burden of high energy costs.”

The borehole is equipped with a state-of-the-art purification system that ensures the water meets safe drinking standards. This initiative is poised to benefit hundreds of households, significantly reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases and improving overall community health.

Local leaders and residents took the opportunity to voice their gratitude for LG’s impactful contribution. Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, Turakin Kano, District Head Kawaji Saunar, remarked, “This project is a lifeline for our community. Before, we faced daily struggles just to access clean water. Now, thanks to LG, we have a sustainable solution right at our doorstep.”

Alhaji Umar Adamu from the Kawaji Area added, “This borehole will transform our lives. We no longer have to risk our health by relying on distant water sources. Clean water is essential for our families, and we are deeply thankful for this support.”

Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government, Hon. Tusuf Imam, praised the collaborative efforts that made this project possible, stating, “This is a shining example of how private sector involvement can lead to meaningful change. We encourage more organizations to invest in community development like LG has done today.”

The event also saw attendance from various local dignitaries, including the Imam of the local mosque, Hon. Samani Abdullahi, H.O.D. Wash Nassarawa LGA, Hon. Kamal I.G Kawaji, and many others, all united in their support for this critical initiative.

LG Electronics has consistently engaged in CSR efforts across Nigeria, concentrating on environmental sustainability, education, and health. This latest project is a testament to the company’s broader mission to utilize technology for social good.

As climate change and water scarcity continue to pose significant challenges, solar-powered boreholes offer a forward-thinking solution that addresses immediate needs while promoting long-term sustainability.

Encouraged by the success of this initiative, LG has signaled its intention to explore similar projects in other communities. Ongoing discussions are aimed at identifying additional regions that could benefit from solar-powered water solutions.

As the residents of Kawaji Sauna MamaU begin to experience the advantages of their new borehole, this project stands as a powerful testament to the potential of collaboration between the private sector and local communities in driving positive change.

With sustained efforts from corporations like LG, the dream of universal access to clean water in Nigeria is becoming a tangible reality.
