The Peat Philips Foundation has visited the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos State to formally present the 2025 National Champion of the Young Orators Public Speaking Competition, Master Israel Bolarinwa.
The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Simon Fields, was available to receive representatives from the prestigious foundation, alongside members of the British High Commission staff in Lagos and students from the British International School, Lekki.
Mr. Simon welcomed his guests warmly, engaging the young visitors in life-changing conversation while offering vital encouragement on how best they can navigate life on their path to success.
During the visit, Master Bolarinwa gave a thought-provoking speech on the theme of hope and its crucial role in shaping the life of any human being. His quality presentation captivated the attendees greatly while reiterating the importance of young voices in driving national growth.
An unforgettable highlight of the gathering was an inspiring oracy contest between 2 of the competition’s top finalists – Miss Oghenetega Tota from Bowen University, Iwo, and Mr. Olalekan Ramadan Oladipupo from Lagos State University, Ojo.
They both had a crack at the topic, “How can partnerships between the UK and Nigeria drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth?” and their speeches were so innovative and impactful that they earned them a standing ovation from the entire audience.
The courtesy visit was a massive success, not just because of the array of brilliant talents on display, but because it clearly reaffirmed the fact that youth empowerment has a major role to play in the country’s development. As Miss Oghenetega Tota, Mr. Olalekan Ramadan, and Master Bolarinwa proved, Nigerian youths are more than blessed with the required intellect, creativity, and confidence to have their say in conversations that will shape the nation’s future.
The Executive Director of the Peat Philips Foundation, Mr. Akinleye Olu-Philips, urged corporate organisations in Nigeria to actively aid youth development initiatives that will trigger deep thinking, articulate expression, and quality civic engagement all across the country.
He is of the opinion that investing in programmes like the Young Orators will definitely go a long way towards building the future of Nigeria and empowering a future generation that is well–informed and prepared to lead.
“Corporate Nigeria has a vital role to play in equipping our youth with the tools they need to lead and innovate. By investing in programmes like the Young Orators, businesses are not just fulfilling corporate social responsibility—they are building the future of Nigeria,” he said.
A Peat Philips Foundation representative added that the foundation will not stop championing oracy and leadership among Nigerian youths, and they’ll keep inviting stakeholders from different sectors to unite with them as they shape the minds of Nigerian kids to feel empowered while they are still teachable.
