The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to brand “Onwa Dezemba” as an annual cultural tourism attraction, positioning the initiative as a major end-of-year destination comparable to Lagos’ Detty December and the Calabar Carnival.
The proposed branding is aimed at leveraging the festive December period to showcase Anambra’s cultural heritage, entertainment offerings and hospitality sector, while attracting increased tourist traffic to the state.
State officials say the initiative is designed to stimulate the local economy by drawing Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to participate in a series of cultural, musical and lifestyle events throughout the holiday season.
If successfully implemented, “Onwa Dezemba” is expected to place Anambra on the national tourism calendar as a seasonal cultural hotspot, boost revenue for local businesses and strengthen the state’s profile as a destination for cultural tourism in eastern Nigeria.
