The All Progressives Congress has reconstituted its National Convention Committee, with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari appointed as Chairman, replacing Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma in a key shake-up ahead of the party’s forthcoming convention.
The reconstitution was approved at a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, according to sources familiar with the decision. Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were named as Vice Chairmen of the committee, reinforcing what party officials described as a move to strengthen internal coordination and widen political balance.
A senior APC official said the changes were aimed at ensuring a “credible, inclusive and well-managed convention process,” adding that the party leadership wanted to draw on Masari’s administrative experience and reputation for consensus-building. “The convention is critical to the party’s future, and the leadership believes this team has the capacity to deliver a transparent and orderly process,” the official said.
Hope Uzodimma, who previously chaired the committee, is expected to continue playing a prominent role within the party, with sources indicating that the reshuffle should not be interpreted as a sanction but as part of a broader strategic realignment. “This is about deploying people where their strengths are most needed at this point in time,” a party source said.
Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is seen by party insiders as bringing legislative and executive experience to the committee, while AbdulRazaq’s inclusion is expected to help bridge interests between governors and the national leadership. “This combination reflects experience, balance and political depth,” an APC chieftain said.
The National Convention Committee is responsible for planning and overseeing the party’s convention, including accreditation of delegates, logistics, security coordination and adherence to party guidelines. The outcome of the convention is expected to shape the APC’s leadership structure and strategic direction ahead of future electoral contests.
Party officials said further details on the convention timetable and sub-committees would be communicated in due course, noting that the reconstituted committee would begin work immediately. The APC leadership has reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, with one official saying the party remains “focused on unity and stability as the foundation for electoral success.”
