Ogun East Residents Dismiss Remo Leaders’ Endorsement of Abiodun for 2027 Senate Bid

    Manny Ita  –

Residents of Ogun East Senatorial District have pushed back against an endorsement of Governor Dapo Abiodun for the district’s Senate seat in 2027, describing the move by Remo Division political officeholders as unrepresentative of the wider electorate.
At a meeting held on Tuesday, party functionaries, local government chairmen, commissioners and special advisers under the platform of Remo stakeholders declared Governor Abiodun as their preferred candidate for the Ogun East Senate seat in 2027. Motions were moved and seconded at the gathering, where speakers cited the governor’s record in office and pledged support for his prospective candidacy.
However, shortly after the endorsement was publicised, reactions from members of the public began to surface online, many of them rejecting the declaration and questioning the legitimacy of the process.
“Fake news, dapo is going no where,” Olawunmi Babs wrote in response to the announcement.
Several commentators argued that the endorsement reflected the position of political appointees rather than that of the broader electorate. Luqman Soliu wrote, “When I was reading the article, I thought I was dreaming until I got to the point I read the author is a paid SSA. Well, what else can the SSA do if not to promote his pocket?”
The absence of any reference to the incumbent senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, also drew attention. Senator Daniel’s tenure runs until 2027, and some respondents questioned the timing and necessity of the endorsement.
“It is not Ogun east aimoye odun for Senate o lule,” Ifagbemi Fatunbi wrote. “O G D Carry go listening leader.”
Crystal Paths added, “Hope say no be the same ogun east wey Daniel dey sha, …..and the person that wrote this thing actually knows the truth o…issokay.”
Others directly questioned the governor’s electoral prospects in the district. “Who will vote for U????” Franklin David wrote.
Olatunji Muyiwa Micheal stated, “You can fool me one time but you can’t fool me all the time. Is not the Special adviser that will write good things about the Governor but the citizens. We are waiting.”
In announcing the endorsement, Chief Kola Ogunjobi cited projects executed under the Abiodun administration, including the construction of over 1,600 kilometres of roads, the completion of the Gateway International Airport and the attraction of industrial investments into the state.
Despite these claims, some respondents said pressing local concerns remained unresolved. “Continue to deceive yourself,” Ojedele Shakirudeen wrote. “Sha, tell him to fix our roads.”
Fowowe Babatunde described the governor as “A DISASTER TO THE PEOPLE OF OGUN STATE, NOW PLANNING FOR SENATE. THEY PLAY.”
Taiwo Adesanya wrote, “NO reputational reference. Let election determine,” while Ogunjimi Joseph Oluwaseun commented, “Na una problem be that. As long it is not Ogun central.”
Some reactions were more pointed. “Awon Oloshi followers and Oloshi leaders,” Otunba Biodun Filas wrote.
Support for the incumbent senator was also expressed. “OGD continuity,” Abdulwasiu Gbolade stated.
Eko John Nicholas wrote, “After performing MIRACLES as governor of Ogun state for 7 years+ abi?”
    Kolade Lukman added, “Failure personification.”
Addressing the governor directly, Aborlanle Temmytorpe wrote, “Mr Governor, don’t allow anybody to deceive you. You just completed your 8-year tenure and went straight to your house for relaxation. You see that Senator seat. OGD IS OUR CHOICE O.”
The endorsement by Remo leaders has therefore highlighted differing views within Ogun East over the 2027 Senate seat, with political officeholders expressing support for Governor Abiodun while several members of the public have voiced preference for the continuation of Senator Daniel’s tenure.
As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of 2027, the reactions underscore that formal endorsements by party stakeholders may not necessarily reflect the broader sentiment of voters, who will ultimately determine the outcome at the ballot box.
