CAF declares stand on 2027 AFCON, to hold as scheduled in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,
CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, on Friday, denied reports suggesting the tournament could be postponed to 2028 due to the host nations’ preparedness.
“We have done a lot to ensure AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains to host it there,” Motsepe said after a CAF executive committee meeting.
“I believe we will hold a very successful AFCON among the three countries. CAF will work closely with the host nations to ensure every aspect of the tournament — from infrastructure to logistics — meets the highest standards,” he added.
No official dates have been announced, but CAF has earmarked June and July for the tournament, just ahead of Kenya’s general elections in August.
The 2027 edition will be the first Africa Cup of Nations to be jointly hosted by three countries — Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
East Africa last hosted the tournament in 1976, when Ethiopia played host.
CAF has emphasised that stadium renovations, training facilities, and transportation networks in the three host nations are being closely monitored to meet international standards.
