Nigeria and the United Kingdom have announced a new Cultural and Creative Economy Partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration between both countries and expanding the global reach of Nigerian creative talent under the “Season of Culture 2028” framework.
The initiative is designed to deepen cultural exchange and unlock new economic opportunities across music, film, fashion, literature, and digital arts. Officials from both countries described the partnership as a long-term strategy to position Nigeria’s creative industry more strongly within global markets while fostering mutual cultural understanding.
The programme is anchored on the broader Season of Culture 2028, a bilateral cultural agenda expected to run through 2028, with a focus on showcasing artistic collaboration, co-productions, and talent mobility between the two nations.
Under the arrangement, Nigeria’s creative economy will benefit from expanded access to UK-based institutions, funding opportunities, and international distribution networks. In return, the United Kingdom is expected to gain deeper engagement with Africa’s fast-growing creative sectors, particularly Nollywood, Afrobeats, fashion design, and contemporary visual arts.
Government representatives also noted that the partnership will support skills development programmes, artist exchange residencies, and joint industry forums aimed at improving production standards and export readiness for Nigerian creatives. Industry stakeholders say the move could significantly boost the commercial value of Nigeria’s entertainment sector, which continues to gain global recognition.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts to formalise the creative economy as a key driver of national development in Nigeria, with policymakers increasingly viewing the sector as a major contributor to employment and foreign exchange earnings.
Observers describe the partnership as one of the most structured cultural collaborations between both countries in recent years, with expectations that it will open new pathways for Nigerian talent to access global stages while strengthening cultural diplomacy between Africa’s largest economy and one of Europe’s leading creative hubs.
