Headline: Fubara Withdraws From Rivers APC Governorship Primaries, Cites Peace and Unity Paraphrase: Siminalayi Fubara has pulled out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 Rivers State election, saying his decision was driven by the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in the state. In a statement he personally signed and sent to journalists, Fubara explained that the move followed deep reflection and consultations with family members, political associates, and supporters. He stressed that leadership sometimes requires personal ambition to be set aside for the broader interest of the people. The governor said Rivers State’s stability must come before any individual political goal, adding that his withdrawal should not be seen as weakness or surrender but as a deliberate sacrifice for unity and progress. Although he did not give full details, he hinted at underlying political pressures and tensions, noting that not every political issue is openly discussed. He also pledged support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate in the primaries. Fubara expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders for their support during the process, while reassuring his supporters that his commitment to serving Rivers State remains unchanged until the end of his tenure.

The Kwara AI Fellowship has officially commenced in Kwara State, with 20 young women selected to participate in a nine-month intensive training program focused on artificial intelligence, data science, and emerging digital technologies. The initiative is backed by the government as part of ongoing efforts to expand digital inclusion and prepare young people for opportunities in Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem.
The program is being implemented under the supervision of the Kwara State government in partnership with selected technology training institutions and private sector collaborators. Officials say the fellowship is designed to address the gender gap in STEM fields by deliberately increasing the number of women with advanced technical skills in areas such as machine learning, AI development, and digital innovation.
Participants in the fellowship will undergo structured training that combines theoretical learning with hands-on practical projects. The curriculum is expected to cover foundational programming, AI model development, data analysis, and real-world applications of artificial intelligence across sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance. Organizers also say mentorship will be a key component, with industry professionals guiding participants throughout the program.
Government representatives have described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development, noting that Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global digital economy depends on building a skilled and diverse workforce. They emphasized that empowering young women in technology is critical to ensuring inclusive growth and reducing barriers that have historically limited female participation in high-tech industries.
The fellowship also includes plans for participants to work on capstone projects aimed at solving local challenges using AI-driven solutions. At the end of the nine-month program, outstanding fellows are expected to receive opportunities for internships, job placements, or support to launch their own tech ventures.
Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the program will serve as a model for similar initiatives across other states, contributing to a broader national push to strengthen innovation capacity and position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
