Catherine, Princess of Wales is preparing to undertake her first official international engagement since recovering from cancer, with a planned visit to Italy next week.
According to Kensington Palace, the two-day solo trip will focus on her work with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, an initiative she launched in 2021 to highlight how early childhood experiences shape long-term development.
During the visit, the princess will travel to Reggio Emilia, a city internationally recognized for the Reggio Emilia Approach. This model emphasizes children as active participants in their learning and encourages education systems to adapt to different ways children think and communicate.
She is expected to engage with educators, parents, children, and community leaders to observe the approach in practice. Palace officials noted that she is eager to see firsthand how nurturing environments and strong human relationships support children’s development.
This marks her first overseas engagement since 2022, when she traveled to Boston alongside Prince William for the Earthshot Prize Awards.
After undergoing treatment in 2024, the princess announced earlier this year that she is in remission. She has since been gradually resuming royal duties, primarily within the UK, while continuing her recovery.
