Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are developing a feature film adaptation of the Afghanistan war memoir No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege for Netflix, through their production company Archewell Productions.
The project is being developed under the couple’s ongoing first-look deal with the streaming platform. The film is based on Major Adam Jowett’s 2019 memoir, which details the experiences of a British military unit deployed in Afghanistan’s Helmand province in July 2006. The story follows a hastily assembled group of soldiers who are deployed to a vulnerable compound where they become isolated, outnumbered, and face sustained attacks during operations against the Taliban.
Prince Harry’s personal military background is closely tied to the subject matter, as he served two tours of duty in Afghanistan during his 10-year service in the British Army.
The screenplay will be written by Matt Charman, an Oscar-nominated writer known for Bridge of Spies. The project will be produced by Archewell Productions in collaboration with Tracy Ryerson, who oversees scripted content for the company.
The film is one of several projects currently in development under Harry and Meghan’s Netflix partnership. Others include adaptations of romance novels such as The Wedding Date and Meet Me at the Lake, alongside previously released productions like Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, The Me You Can’t See, Polo, and With Love, Meghan.
Despite recent speculation about the future of their deal, Netflix has publicly confirmed that its partnership with the couple remains active, noting that multiple film and television projects are still in development.
