Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc increased its profit after tax by 20.4 per cent to N50.30bn in the first half of 2026, despite a sharp rise in loan loss provisions as the lender expanded its credit portfolio. The financial holding company reported profit after tax of N50.30bn for the six months ended 30 June 2026, up from N41.78bn in the corresponding period of 2025. Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced browser-based voice and video calling, allowing users to make and receive calls directly through web browsers without downloading the desktop application, in its latest effort to improve cross-device communication. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied changing the timetable for the 2027 general elections, dismissing a new schedule circulating on social media as fake. The Nigerian Army has appointed General Officers Commanding (GOCs) to lead its newly established divisions, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the expansion of the Army from eight to 12 divisions, as part of efforts to strengthen command and control, enhance operational effectiveness and improve the country’s response to terrorism and other emerging security threats.
