Maranello Enters Final Testing for Ferrari Elettrica Ahead of 2026 Global Debut

Maranello has officially moved into the final testing phase for its first fully electric vehicle, currently referred to by the placeholder name Ferrari Elettrica, as it prepares for a mid-2026 launch.

Disclosed in technical detail during a recent workshop at the company’s headquarters, the model is being positioned as a high-performance Luxury Grand Tourer intended to offer the utility of the Purosangue while providing acceleration performance that exceeds the brand’s current internal combustion models. With a projected starting price of approximately $580,000, the vehicle is aimed at a demographic of high-net-worth collectors seeking a combination of traditional prestige and sustainable technology.

A significant engineering focus of the project is the “Authentic Acoustic System,” for which Ferrari has patented a method that avoids the use of artificial speakers to generate engine noise. Instead, the system utilizes high-precision sensors to capture natural mechanical vibrations from the electric motors and driveline, which are then amplified to create a visceral “roar” that scales with the vehicle’s acceleration. This is paired with a Virtual Shifting System that allows drivers to select from five torque maps and experience the tactile feedback of gear shifts through a specialized e-Manettino dial.

Technical specifications for the Elettrica include an in-house developed 880V architecture and a four-motor powertrain that delivers a combined peak output of 1,141 hp. This setup enables the four-door, four-seat vehicle to achieve a 0–100 km/h sprint in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h. The vehicle is equipped with a 122 kWh gross capacity battery pack, integrated as a structural component of the chassis to lower the center of gravity, providing a WLTP-rated range of over 530 km (330 miles). The system supports 350 kW DC fast charging, allowing for a 10% to 80% replenishment in roughly 25 minutes.

The vehicle’s interior and user experience are being developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive and Marc Newson. Ferrari has indicated that the cabin will emphasize “tactility” and high-quality materials, potentially reintroducing physical controls to distinguish the model from the touchscreen-heavy interfaces prevalent in the electric vehicle market. While the exterior remains under wraps, Ferrari intends to reveal the interior design concept in early 2026, followed by a full world premiere in the spring.

The Ferrari Elettrica enters a 2027 market defined by rapid technological benchmarks. For comparison, Toyota’s Land Cruiser Se is targeting a 1,000 km range using breakthrough solid-state battery technology that allows for a 10-minute charge. Tesla is pivoting toward the mass market with its “Model 2,” utilizing an “unboxed” assembly method to achieve a $25,000 price point and a 400 km range. In the premium SUV segment, the Mercedes-Benz EQG is set to offer a 550 km range powered by silicon anode batteries for 20% higher density, while the Rivian R2 targets a 480 km range with native NACS support and an in-house perception stack.
