The United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Thursday hosted a special edition of its flagship UBA Business Series in Lagos, bringing together prominent female leaders and professionals for a session titled “Gen W – The Evolved Woman.” The event focused on conversations around leadership, innovation and professional growth for women navigating today’s rapidly changing economic landscape.
The summit convened accomplished women from diverse sectors including business, finance, media and entrepreneurship, who shared personal experiences and strategies for building influence and resilience in challenging economic conditions. Participants discussed the evolving role of women in leadership, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, mentorship and access to opportunities in shaping the next generation of female professionals.
Organisers said the session forms part of UBA’s broader initiative to promote entrepreneurship, capacity development and inclusive economic participation across Africa. According to the bank, the theme “Gen W – The Evolved Woman” was designed to spotlight women who are redefining leadership by combining professional excellence with social impact.
Speaking during the session, a representative of the bank noted that empowering women remains central to sustainable economic growth. “Women are increasingly taking the lead in shaping industries and communities. Through platforms like the UBA Business Series, we want to provide a space where ideas are exchanged and practical lessons are shared to inspire more women to step into leadership roles,” the representative said.
Panelists at the event reflected on the realities of building careers and businesses in a challenging economic environment, urging women to remain resilient while investing in skills development and professional networks. One of the speakers remarked that “the evolved woman understands the value of collaboration and continuous learning, especially in an economy that is constantly transforming.”
Discussions also highlighted the importance of financial literacy and strategic decision-making, with speakers encouraging women entrepreneurs to leverage available financial tools and partnerships to grow sustainable businesses. “Leadership today requires courage, innovation and the ability to adapt quickly. Women must position themselves to lead not only in their organisations but also within their communities,” another panelist stated.
The gathering attracted entrepreneurs, professionals, students and aspiring business leaders who engaged in interactive discussions with the speakers. Participants described the summit as an opportunity to learn from established leaders while gaining insights into navigating economic uncertainties.
UBA officials reiterated that the Business Series will continue to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing and mentorship, particularly for young Africans seeking to build successful careers and enterprises. They added that the focus on women’s leadership reflects a growing recognition of the critical role women play in driving economic development and social transformation across the continent.
