Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has reportedly been hospitalised following a gunshot injury sustained during a skit production in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State. The incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon beneath the Sango-Ota bridge, reportedly took place while the entertainer was filming content with members of his production crew. While the exact circumstances leading to the discharge of the firearm remain unclear, preliminary reports suggest the situation escalated during the recording session, resulting in a wound to the comedian’s thigh.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the immediate response of the production team following the injury. “He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We don’t have details on how it happened yet, but his crew members who were present quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source stated. Following the incident, Perry was first taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos for emergency first aid before being referred to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area (GRA), Ikeja, where he is currently said to be recuperating.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed they were alerted to the development by medical personnel. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stated on Thursday, “The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility. Detectives and a patrol team were immediately mobilised to the hospital, where they discovered that the victim was a skit maker and social media influencer popularly known as Broda Shaggy.” Adebisi further noted that while the victim was seen on a stretcher with a thigh injury, the primary scene of the incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
The Ogun State Police Command has indicated that investigations are ongoing to verify the facts of the case. Command spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi remarked on Friday that a formal report had not yet been filed at the state level, though authorities are looking into the veracity of the claims. “Thank God you said alleged. We cannot confirm that it happened within our jurisdiction. We can confirm that he is in Lagos,” Babaseyi noted during a telephone briefing. Meanwhile, reports have surfaced suggesting the possible involvement of security personnel at the scene, with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos Command confirming they have commenced an internal inquiry into the matter.
