    CUT

    SC 2:Governor’s Apartment

Mr Emeka is standing with his co-politician. Some are seated and others are standing. Mr Emeka, with a glass of wine in his hand, moves about anxiously. It is obvious he is expecting something. He keeps looking at his watch. Just then, John storms in.
MR EMEKA: Ah! Ha! John, what is the outcome from the general collation centre?
(John pretends not to be happy)
Your Excellency, the total result of the vote has been received. With the situation on ground, the incumbent governor seems to be…
    MR EMEKA: (He interrupts.)
John, did Reformers Party lose? Did we lose the election to the incumbent governor?
JOHN: You Excellency, it is a tight race but obviously a winner must emerge. Whichever way it goes, we must learn to embrace the spirit of a sportsmanship…
(Mr Emeka sinks to the sofa. He is downcast. John continues.)
…knowing fully well that when a winner takes it all, it makes the loser feel so small
(He pauses for a while and goes to Mr Emeka. )
    Your Excellency! Are you alright?
MR EMEKA: I lost all my investment in this election. God, I am finished. How do I start, from where and how? God!
JOHN: Your Excellency, you need not bother about that for in ‘3’ days time, you would be sworn in as the new governor of this state.
(All of them jubilate as they refill their glasses and celebrate the success.)
The indigenes of the state declared that they are tired of the incumbent governor since he could not deliver the most needed democratic dividend.
MR BABATUNDE: Oh, Johnny, why did you keep us all in suspense all the while you entered?
MR EMEKA: You know my heart pressure is not friendly with shock. Eh!
JOHN: You Excellency, I am so sorry. You know what I studied in school.
MR EMEKA: Oh! I’ve forgotten. You this Theatre Artist, you have a way with words
JOHN: Yes, it is called suspense infinity
MR IKE: What is that Johnny?
    JOHN: Another theatrical slogan
    (All of them laughed.)
    CUT TO

    SC 3: Destiny’s Father’s Apartment

NEWSCASTER: This is the result of the just concluded state election. The RPN Party in this state scored a total of 6928902 votes to defeat the incumbent Mr Rowland Omobolanle who gained a total of 6751229 votes.
DESTINY: Wao, Tina’s father made it. Dad, Mum, father of one of my course mate in school
MRS MAXWEL: Great! They are lucky o.
MR MAXWEL: Being lucky is not the issue here; the case is how far he will be able to deliver the dividend of democracy. I am concern about that.
DESTINY: Well Dad, only time will tell
MRS MAXWEL: Indeed, time shall tell.
    CUT TO

    SC 5: ON FIELD

    TINA: (She’s a bit confused. )
I don’t think I returned with any flower yesterday. Moreover, to the best of my knowledge, you don’t have any garden. I don’t …
    DESTINY: (He interrupts her.)
You see, Tina, I dreamt all day, all week, all month and all years just to hold you close. I want you to be by my side. Be the mother of my children. That is all I ask.
(He presents the ring. Tina is dumbfounded.)
DESTINY: Don’t say no, my love
(Tina looks into his eyes and nods in affirmation. Destiny inserts the ring into her finger. They stand to embrace each other.)

    SC 9/10: Maxwell’s Apartment

Tina is hallucinating from Scene 7. Mrs Emeka enters.

MRS EMEKA: (She rushes to her)
    Tina, Tina…
    (Trying to wake her.)
Tina, what is it? What is wrong with you? Is this day dreaming or what? Who are you talking with?
    TINA: (Realizing)
    Nobody, mama!
MRS EMEKA: Are you okay? My love, you can talk to me.
    TINA:Mummy I’m okay, it’s just a dream.
(MRs Emeka stares at her. Tina’s phone rings. Mrs Emeka walks away as she picks up the phone. To her surprise, it is Destiny)
    Hello, Destiny
    DESTINY: (Voice over)…Hi
    TINA: Destiny…
DESTINY: Congratulations on your father’s victory. I just heard the news.
    TINA: Thank you love.
DESTINY: You are now at the corridor of power. We hope we will not be forgotten, we the less privileged.
TINA: Come on Destiny, why do you talk like this? You know you are special to me. How can I forget my love? I love you Destiny.
DESTINY: (In surprise, he cuts the phone and stares at the phone)
What does she mean by that?
TINA: (She’s also shocked but still on call)…hello, hello. He cuts off… Could this be coincidence? Is he truly in love with me or I’m hallucinating? He proposed to me, yes. He did it!
(She examines her empty finger again)
He proposed to me. He gave me an engagement ring. I’m confused. Why did he hang up. Something is wrong. Something is amiss somewhere
    CUTS
