Entertainment: Lessons for Nigeria From Canada’s Booming Industry

    • Nigeria needs to combine infrastructure, leverage key online industries and promote cultural exports for the industry to experience explosive and blooming outcome from the globe.

Nigeria will soon need to capitalize on the growing online entertainment industry in the country, as this could prove highly lucrative. Countries like Canada provide a good blueprint for the African nation to follow.

Nigeria Needs to Build a Strong Infrastructure

If you analyze Canada’s success and the way its entertainment industry managed to boom over a short period of time, a lot of it has to do with the infrastructure. The government invested heavily in production facilities across various subsections of entertainment, including film, television, and gaming.

In addition to that, it also put incentives in place to make it easier for companies in the entertainment industry to thrive. There are various tax incentives in place, and some companies have also been beneficiaries of public grants. There are organizations such as Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund that help fund projects as well.

The Nigerian government needs to replicate this and get behind companies in the entertainment industry so they can thrive. Implementing a dedicated fund to the entertainment sector could allow for rapid growth over the next decade.

Time to Start Leveraging Key Online Industries

The rise of online industries in Nigeria is likely to mirror what happened in Canada. There are certain sectors that will be more popular, and the government needs to make it easy for these to flourish. Online casinos represent one of the most booming sectors in Canada, and there are already indications that this will be the case in Nigeria as well.

Nigeria already has some huge land-based casinos, and there is a growing interest in the games in an online setting. There are various advantages to playing online, such as the increased number of games available. For instance, the LuckyDays casino table games come in a wide range of variants. These include innovative titles that can only be found online, like Bingote and Cards of Ra: Jacks or Better.

The online casino industry is constantly expanding and is set to be double in size in the next decade. This offers Nigeria a perfect chance to get on board and promote its own iGaming industry.

    Promoting Cultural Exports

Another aspect of Canada’s success has been in promoting its cultural exports, which often reflect the country’s heritage. Nigeria already has a head start with this, as it has a flourishing film industry with countless offerings on Netflix. According to an article in Zikoko, there are various impressive Nollywood movies that everyone should stream.

Countries like Canada provide a good blueprint for Nigeria to follow to capitalize on the growing online entertainment industry in the country.

Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to benefit from its blossoming entertainment industry over the next few years. It needs to look at successful countries like Canada to make sure it puts the right measures in place.
