Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

Veteran entertainers should be rewarded for their sacrifices – Mr Latin

Veteran actor and President, Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan, aka Mr Latin, has said veteran entertainers should be rewarded for their sacrifices.

He also advised young actors to give priority to professional training and not be in a haste for success.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Amusan said, “Young actors should be dedicated to their profession. They should give themselves what they deserve and go through the right channels. Even though we welcome everyone to the industry, young actors should not cut corners for success. You either go through a professional institution or learn from a recognised theatre leader.”

Amusan, who recently unveiled the TAMPAN Welfare Foundation, noted that the primary aim of establishing it was to take care of sick veteran actors.

He said, “We think this is the right time to pay back individuals in the industry who have sacrificed for the young ones to thrive. Most of them are not making money anymore. The least we can do to help veterans is to take their health seriously. That is why we formed the TAMPAN Foundation.

“The foundation will cater for 200 elders’ health for a year after which we will increase it to 300 or 400 in the long run.”

He added that young actors were not left out as they would also be entitled to some healthcare benefits.

Speaking about bullying in the industry, the thespian said it was the association’s duty to protect young actors from bullying.

“TAMPAN has a special unit that attends to any form of bullying. If actors have any evidence of people bullying them, such should be reported to the association and we will take it up,” he added.
