Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering measurable progress and restoring confidence in governance, following his recognition as LEADERSHIP Newspaper’s Governor of the Year. The award was presented on Thursday, February 12, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja during the media organisation’s annual conference.
Lawal, who was represented at the event, described the honour as a call to deepen reforms and sustain efforts aimed at repositioning Zamfara State. A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the annual conference and awards ceremony celebrate individuals whose contributions have earned national acclaim across different sectors.
The event drew prominent personalities, including the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Amina Mohammed, who delivered the keynote address. Speaking on the theme, “Political Stability and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Increasingly Unstable Global System: A Roadmap for Nigeria,” Mohammed stressed the importance of resilient institutions and responsible leadership in confronting emerging global and domestic pressures.
In its citation, LEADERSHIP Newspaper commended the governor’s leadership approach and reform agenda, stating, “Governor Dauda Lawal’s remarkable performance and courageous leadership have positioned Zamfara on a renewed path of progress, peace, and sustainable development.” The organisers said the award recognises achievements recorded in security, infrastructure renewal and economic revitalisation in the state.
The newspaper added that the administration’s policies demonstrate “excellence and profound commitment to the welfare” of the people of Zamfara, noting that the recognition reflects observable changes credited to the governor’s stewardship.
The latest honour comes weeks after Lawal was named Governor of the Year by The Sun Newspaper at a ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, further underscoring what organisers described as sustained reforms and governance initiatives under his leadership.
