GMYT Fashion Academy has inducted 21 new fashion entrepreneurs in a ceremony celebrating creativity, innovation, and the growing influence of Nigeria’s fashion industry. The induction event, held in Lagos, brought together industry professionals, emerging designers, fashion enthusiasts, and business leaders who applauded the graduates for completing their entrepreneurial and fashion development training.
The academy said the newly inducted entrepreneurs had undergone intensive mentorship and practical sessions focused on fashion design, branding, garment production, marketing, and business management. Organisers explained that the initiative was designed to equip young Africans with the skills needed to compete in both local and international fashion markets.
Speaking during the ceremony, representatives of the academy encouraged the graduates to embrace originality and consistency while building sustainable fashion businesses. They also highlighted the increasing global recognition of African fashion and the opportunities available for creative entrepreneurs across the continent.
The event comes as anticipation builds for the upcoming Epic Fashion Week, scheduled to begin on May 23 in Lagos. Organisers of the fashion showcase revealed that more than 50 African designers are expected to participate in the event, which aims to spotlight contemporary African fashion, textile innovation, and cultural expression.
Designers from several African countries are expected to present collections featuring modern interpretations of traditional fabrics, luxury streetwear, couture, and sustainable fashion pieces. The week-long event will also include runway shows, networking sessions, exhibitions, masterclasses, and collaborations between established and emerging creatives.
Industry observers believe the combination of fashion education initiatives and large-scale fashion events is helping position Lagos as one of Africa’s leading creative and style capitals. Stakeholders say such platforms are creating employment opportunities for young people while expanding the reach of African fashion brands globally.
