The Director-General, Chief Executive of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, has been awarded an Honorary Doctoral Fellowship by the Emergency, Crisis & Disaster Risk Management Institute.

The award was presented during the maiden edition of the Nigeria Climate and Emergency Conference.

Representing the SON DG at the event, the Group Head of Environment Standards, Dr. Ganiyat Adebayo, delivered a goodwill message, expressing gratitude to the organisers for the recognition.

Okeke emphasised the critical need for proactive measures to combat the climate crisis and mitigate associated risks.

“Resilience and adaptation are not just strategies; they are imperatives for safeguarding our environment, protecting lives and livelihoods, and ensuring sustainable development,” Okeke said.

Okeke highlighted the pivotal role of standardisation in addressing climate challenges, noting that SON actively develops and enforces guidelines to promote sustainable practices across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and waste management.

He reaffirmed SON’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a safer, more sustainable Nigeria.

SON DG, Dr. Ifeanyi, recognized with Doctoral Fellowship in Crisis Management.

“SON remains a reliable partner in advancing Nigeria’s climate response goals and will continue to support initiatives that prioritise sustainability, environmental stewardship, and global best practices,” he added.

In response, the Director-General of the Emergency Crisis Risk Management Institute, Dr. Chuks Akawo, commended Okeke for his dedication and leadership in steering SON toward achieving its mandate and for contributing significantly to Nigeria’s climate resilience and sustainability efforts.
