President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstruction of three major federal roads in Niger State as part of efforts to strengthen transportation infrastructure and improve economic activities along key national corridors.
The approval was disclosed by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, who said the projects form part of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitating strategic road networks across the country.
According to the statement, the roads approved for reconstruction include the Mokwa–Bida Road measuring 120 kilometres, the Mokwa–Makera Road spanning 63 kilometres, and the Bida–Lambata Road covering 123.5 kilometres, bringing the total length of the projects to approximately 306.5 kilometres.
The Federal Government stated that the roads would be reconstructed using reinforced concrete pavement technology to ensure durability and long-term sustainability, noting that the intervention is aimed at addressing years of deterioration that have negatively affected transportation and commercial activities in the affected areas.
Umahi explained that the projects would be executed to modern engineering standards, adding that the roads are located along critical economic corridors essential for trade, agriculture, and inter-state movement.
“The project will be executed on a dual carriageway capacity, constructed with concrete pavement, and equipped with solar-powered street lighting,” the statement read, adding that the contracts would be awarded through a competitive procurement process.
He commended the president for approving what he described as strategic infrastructure projects capable of improving transportation efficiency and accelerating national development.
The minister further urged Nigerians to support the administration’s infrastructure renewal drive, stressing that the road projects align with the government’s broader agenda of delivering sustainable economic growth and improving the living standards of citizens.
The reconstruction approval forms part of ongoing federal interventions aimed at rehabilitating major highways nationwide to ease the movement of goods and passengers while promoting regional integration and economic expansion.
