The Kaduna State Police Command has dispelled widespread fears following an early morning explosion at Mando Motor Park, confirming that the incident was not a bomb blast but a gas-related accident involving a luxury bus.
The explosion occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 5, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., when a loud sound triggered panic among residents and commuters in the area. Initial reports and speculation had suggested a possible security breach, raising concerns about a bomb explosion.
However, in an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, clarified that preliminary investigations revealed the explosion was caused by an overfilled compressed natural gas (CNG) tank in a luxury bus operated by a transport company at the park.
The affected vehicle reportedly ignited due to excessive pressure in its gas system, leading to the blast. The incident also impacted nearby parked vehicles, with at least two buses sustaining damage.
Reassuring the public, the police confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded, as the vehicles were stationary and unoccupied at the time of the explosion. Authorities also stated that normal activities have since resumed at the motor park.
Security operatives, including the Nigeria Police Force Bomb Disposal Unit, were deployed to the scene as a precautionary measure, while the damaged vehicle was evacuated to prevent further risk.
The Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered a full investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances and prevent a recurrence. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to verify information before sharing, as misinformation—especially on security matters—can trigger unnecessary panic.
The clarification has helped calm tensions in Kaduna, reinforcing that the incident was an accidental mechanical failure rather than a security threat.
