Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) train
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has made public the resumption of passenger train services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor from Wednesday, 1 October 2025, following weeks of suspension.
The Corporation confirmed that full safety, technical, and operational inspections have been successfully concluded, paving the way for the recommencement of commercial operations.
NRC described the move as part of its renewed commitment to providing smooth, reliable, and secure train services for commuters along the strategic route.
The suspension of operations followed the August 26, 2025 incident, which involved 618 passengers. NRC disclosed that of the 583 passengers whose contacts were verified, 530 were reached directly, with 512 already refunded.
It further revealed that the 22 injured passengers have received medical attention and will benefit from one free ride per week until 31 December 2025.
In addition, all 618 passengers on board during the incident will be entitled to a complimentary ride before the end of the year.
A revised timetable has been released for the Abuja–Kaduna route: trains will depart Idu at 8:45 a.m., stop at Kubwa at 9:05 a.m., and arrive in Rigassa, Kaduna, at 12:42 p.m.
The return journey will leave Rigassa at 2:30 p.m., stop at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m., and arrive at Idu by 6:23 p.m. Every Wednesday has been designated for routine maintenance.
The Corporation expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and cooperation during the suspension, reiterating its mission to provide safe, affordable, and customer-friendly rail services that enhance national connectivity and economic growth.
Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, signed the statement on behalf of the NRC.
