Kano International Polo Tournament is an established institution through which different sections of society are brought together.
The role of cultural institutions in sustaining community identity and strengthening regional relationships came into focus at the 2026 NPA Kano International Polo Tournament, where Alt bank supported one of Northern Nigeria’s longstanding sporting traditions.
Held at the Usman Dantata Polo Ground in Kano, the tournament brought together local and international polo players, traditional leaders, business executives and sporting enthusiasts, reflecting the continued significance of the competition within the region’s cultural and social landscape.
Beyond its sporting appeal, the Kano International Polo Tournament is an established institution through which traditions are sustained, relationships are maintained, and different sections of society are brought together.
For Alt bank, supporting the tournament reflects an understanding that the strength of a community is shaped not only by its economic activity but also by the institutions, traditions and relationships that sustain its identity.
Muhammad Danbichi, Regional Business Executive, Commercial and Institutional Banking, North-West 1, Alt bank, noted that cultural institutions have a place in conversations about regional development because of their role in bringing communities and institutions together.
“A region’s development cannot be measured by economic activity alone. Its cultural institutions, traditions and community relationships are also important parts of what makes it thrive. The Kano International Polo Tournament has become part of the city’s identity, and supporting it is one way of recognising the value of institutions that bring people together and preserve a shared heritage. For us at Alt bank, that is an important part of what meaningful community engagement should look like,” Danbichi said.
The tournament also demonstrated the continued importance of collaboration between sporting institutions and corporate organisations in sustaining established competitions.
Tajuddeen Dantata, Chairman of the Kano Polo Club, spoke on the significance of partnerships in sustaining the tournament and strengthening its profile, while Shehu Muhammed, Sarkin Shanu Kano, reflected on the tournament’s importance to Kano’s sporting and cultural heritage.
The gathering of traditional institutions, businesses and sporting communities at the event reflected the connections that established cultural platforms can foster across different parts of society.
As a non-interest bank, Alt bank operates within a financial framework that places emphasis on ethical principles and responsible economic participation. Its support for the tournament reflects a broader recognition that cultural continuity and community development are important considerations alongside economic progress.
