      May 22, 2026

Headline: Fubara Withdraws From Rivers APC Governorship Primaries, Cites Peace and Unity Paraphrase: Siminalayi Fubara has pulled out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 Rivers State election, saying his decision was driven by the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in the state. In a statement he personally signed and sent to journalists, Fubara explained that the move followed deep reflection and consultations with family members, political associates, and supporters. He stressed that leadership sometimes requires personal ambition to be set aside for the broader interest of the people. The governor said Rivers State’s stability must come before any individual political goal, adding that his withdrawal should not be seen as weakness or surrender but as a deliberate sacrifice for unity and progress. Although he did not give full details, he hinted at underlying political pressures and tensions, noting that not every political issue is openly discussed. He also pledged support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate in the primaries. Fubara expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders for their support during the process, while reassuring his supporters that his commitment to serving Rivers State remains unchanged until the end of his tenure.

Awards will feature 24 competitive categories, including best reporter, best newscaster, and best producer.

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria has announced that Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, alongside his counterparts from Zamfara and Kaduna states, will be honoured at the 2026 Nigeria Broadcasting Awards scheduled for April 8 in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of BON, Yemisi Bamgbose, and obtained from Cross River Government social media handles on Friday.

According to the organisation, the governors, Dauda Lawal and Uba Sani, will be recognised for their support for the media industry and contributions to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria.

The statement read, “After several months of painstaking process and preparations, the long-awaited 2nd edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards will hold on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.”

BON described the honourees as “partners in progress whose commitment to media development continues to inspire institutional growth and professional excellence.”

The awards ceremony, scheduled to hold at the NAF Conference Centre, is expected to bring together stakeholders across the broadcast sector, with activities billed to run between 6pm and 9pm.

The organisation noted that the recognition is aimed at encouraging collaboration between government and media institutions.

“Leaders who create enabling environments for media to thrive deserve to be celebrated as champions of democratic engagement and information dissemination,” the statement added.

BON further explained that the awards, endorsed at its 74th General Assembly in 2021, were designed to promote excellence and best practices in the broadcast industry.

“The primary objective of the Awards is to celebrate excellence and promote quality media practice in the broadcast industry,” it stated.

Providing details of the selection process, BON said the 2026 edition attracted 204 entries covering broadcast performances from 2024, adding that the evaluation was conducted by a panel led by former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako.

The organisation described the process as “thorough, transparent and reflective of the highest industry standards.”

In addition to the special recognition for the governors, the awards will feature 24 competitive categories, including radio and television stations of the year, best reporter, best newscaster, and best producer.

BON added that the event would also recognise individuals whose contributions have shaped the growth of broadcasting in Nigeria, while reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and innovation in the sector.
