Delta State SDGs Summer Camp 2025: Empowering the Young Generation of Global Goals Leaders

Empowering the Next Generation of Global Goals Leaders

… envisioning a better future through young leaders.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F. Oborevwori and the support of Her Excellency Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Delta State, continue to champion youth-centred sustainable development in Africa.

From August 4–8, 2025, over 80 children from across the state’s three senatorial zones gathered in Sapele for the second edition of the Delta State SDGs Summer Camp, themed “From Awareness to Action.”

Organised by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, led by Lady Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette, the camp built on the success of the state’s 2024 debut, equipping children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become active advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2025 camp featured waste-to-wealth climate action workshops by the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), healthcare services and wellness education from the Delta State Ministry of Health, and first aid training by the Red Cross. Participants also engaged in mental health awareness sessions by DEEVOICE, drug prevention outreach by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and entrepreneurship training led by John Iyoha.

Additional activities included AI, crochet, and modeling sessions facilitated by Queen Success (Queen of Delta State 33), leadership and character-building programs by Scout representatives, and faith-based sessions organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Delta State Chapter. The camp also featured live media engagement through Delta State Broadcasting Service (DBS) and Megastar Media, as well as SDGs Kids Radio, a live, child-led radio production.

A highlight of the event was a thought-provoking debate on “The Role of Citizens in Community Development and Peace,” followed by a statewide Chess Tournament led by Francis Eyo-Enoette (Camp Director) and Abolade, themed “Brains & Wit.”

A pivotal moment came with the one-year scholarship awarded by CPIM to out-of-school children, demonstrating a tangible commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education.

Special recognition was given to Dr. Chief Godday Erewa, grand sponsor and Global SDG 4 Champion; Chief Bright Abeke, Chairman of Sapele LGA, and Mrs. Diane Abeke for their local support; Hon. Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan, Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services & Girl-Child Development; and Chief Daniel Ivwighren, Director General of the Delta State Directorate of SDGs, for their strategic leadership.

The success of the camp was made possible through collaboration with BRadE Events, Chef Buffy, Agropadi, CPMI, Ade Mabo Foundation, Southern Women Empowerment Forum, and the staff of Valley Stream British School, the host venue.

Lady Diana Eyo-Enoette emphasized the importance of youth involvement in development, stating: “Children do not have to wait until they’re grown to make a difference. They are citizens of now.”

Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government, reiterated the state’s commitment to inclusive growth: “Delta State remains consciously committed to the development of its citizenry. From engaging community and traditional leaders to empowering children and youths, we are determined to listen, act, and truly leave no one behind.”

Under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, Delta State is not only envisioning a better future but actively nurturing the young leaders who will shape it.
