Guinea welcomes partnership from Nigeria in mega projects worth $20bn
The Republic of Guinea is inviting Nigerian businesses to participate in a series of ongoing mega projects worth an estimated $20bn.
The call was made by the Guinean Ambassador to Nigeria, Siaka Cissoko, while speaking with journalists at the Guinean Embassy in Abuja, on Sunday.
Cissoko urged Nigerian companies to explore sectors where they have expertise and a competitive edge, highlighting the opportunities available in Guinea’s development initiatives.
He underscored the potential for collaboration between the two West African nations, particularly in mining and infrastructure.
“As I speak to you, there is an ongoing mega multibillion-dollar project in Guinea, about $20bn that could be handled by Nigerian companies,” the ambassador stated.
He noted that many Guinean entrepreneurs often travel to countries such as India and Pakistan in search of smaller-scale investments ranging from $5 million to $10m, which, he said, are also available in Nigeria but remain untapped due to a lack of information.
Cissoko stressed that both Guinea and Nigeria are rich in mineral resources and could benefit from stronger economic cooperation in the mining sector.
He also reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between the two countries and expressed optimism that the relationship could be further enhanced through partnerships with organizations such as DICAN.
He commended DICAN for the visit and expressed confidence that the association could help bridge the information gap between Guinea and Nigeria.
“Most of our people in Guinea build their opinion of Nigeria based on the Nollywood movies they are exposed to,” he said, adding that through the new partnership, more accurate and positive information could be shared.
Four Nigerian banks—Access Bank, United Bank for Africa, First Bank, and Polaris Bank—are already operational in Guinea, reflecting existing financial ties between the two countries.
The ambassador pledged Guinea’s readiness to collaborate with the association on areas such as information exchange, sponsorship, training, and charity initiatives. He also invited DICAN to engage with the Guinean community in Nigeria and report on its activities.
DICAN Chairman Fredrick Idehai responded by assuring the embassy of the association’s support and commitment to fostering a productive partnership.
“We will be available to support the embassy at all times,” Idehai said.
