The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has officially begun the compensation process for tenants and occupants displaced by land acquisition for the Blue Line rail depot at Okokomaiko, as part of the expansive Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line project.
The announcement came after a stakeholder engagement meeting held at the palace of the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina, where traditional leaders, project‑affected residents, and LAMATA officials gathered to discuss compensation procedures and project timelines.
According to a post on LAMATA’s X handle on Tuesday, at the meeting, LAMATA’s Rail Project Manager, Abidemi Atobatele, outlined the process for tenants to claim their compensation.
He said, “Tenants were informed of the documentation required to facilitate the processing of their claims, including their Project Affected Persons (PAP) cards, tenancy rent receipts, recent passport photographs, and valid means of identification.”
Atobatele stressed that the authority aims to make the process “transparent, fair and timely,” noting that the compensation exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday through Friday next week to allow for an orderly payout.
Traditional leadership also weighed in on the process.
Oba Sulaimon Adeshina urged residents to cooperate with the Lagos State Government to ensure the successful delivery of the rail project and encouraged those with concerns or special appeals to bring them forward through the palace so they can be communicated to LAMATA and state authorities.
Residents were reminded that this compensation is part of a broader land acquisition effort needed to clear space for the depot, which will support the Blue Line’s expansion, a key public‑transport infrastructure initiative intended to improve mobility and economic activity along the corridor.
LAMATA also reassured that the documentation requirements and compensation procedures are designed to uphold fairness and international best practices in resettlement and compensation for infrastructure‑affected persons.
