Nigeria US-based author manufactures AI-powered migration monitor for Africans report
A United States-based Nigerian author and media entrepreneur, Chimee Adioha, has called for urgent action to address the challenges surrounding African migration reporting. Adioha, who co-founded Diaspora Africa, a media and research organisation dedicated to migration reporting, emphasised the need for better management and representation of African migration narratives.
Speaking on the gaps in current migration policies and storytelling, Adioha noted that migration issues in Africa are often underreported, leading to a lack of accountability and understanding.
“If there are no institutions dedicated to amplifying migration stories and documenting these events, it would mean that they don’t exist in the eyes of policymakers and the public,” he said.
Diaspora Africa, through its innovative AI-powered Migration Monitor, tracks violations against African migrants and provides comprehensive data for journalists, researchers, and policymakers.
“We integrated AI to make tracking migration violations more efficient. The monitor categorizes these violations year by year, offering a centralized resource for those working on migration issues,” Adioha explained. Adioha also highlighted the role of storytelling in influencing migration policies.
“Nothing is as powerful as lived experiences. Too often, decisions are made without considering the realities of those affected. Through our work, we aim to amplify these voices and push for actionable change,” he said.
