Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

A passenger train operating along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor derailed earlier today, leaving several passengers injured and prompting an immediate investigation into the cause of the incident, railway authorities have confirmed.
The train, which was en route between Abuja and Kaduna, reportedly veered off the tracks at a yet-to-be officially disclosed location, causing panic among passengers onboard. Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the scene to evacuate passengers and provide medical assistance to those injured. Authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded in the incident.
Officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation stated that preliminary reports indicate a mechanical or track-related issue may have contributed to the derailment, although a full assessment is currently underway. “We are grateful that no lives were lost, but some passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment,” a spokesperson said.
Eyewitness accounts from passengers described a sudden jolt before the train came to an abrupt halt. “There was a loud noise and the coach tilted slightly. People were thrown off balance, and there was confusion for a few minutes,” one passenger recounted.
Security agencies and railway officials cordoned off the affected section of the track as investigators began examining the scene. Technical teams have also been deployed to assess the extent of damage to the rail infrastructure and to determine how quickly normal operations can resume along the busy route.
A senior official involved in the rescue operation noted, “Our priority was to ensure the safe evacuation of all passengers and to attend to the injured. We have accounted for everyone onboard.”
The Abuja-Kaduna rail line, one of Nigeria’s most heavily used standard gauge routes, has in recent years served as a critical alternative to road travel due to security concerns along the highway. Today’s incident is expected to raise fresh questions about rail safety standards and maintenance protocols.
Authorities have assured the public that a comprehensive investigation has commenced, with findings to be made public. “We will identify the root cause and take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence,” the railway corporation stated, urging passengers to remain calm as efforts continue to restore confidence in the rail system.

Next Article Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu is set to deepen her global influence as the EbonyLife brand prepares to launch EbonyLife Place London, a major cultural and creative hub dedicated to amplifying African storytelling and entrepreneurship in the United Kingdom. The new venture, situated in the heart of London, is designed as a multi-purpose space that will serve as a meeting point for filmmakers, content creators, investors, and creatives of African descent. The project reflects EbonyLife’s long-standing mission to project authentic African narratives onto the global stage while creating sustainable opportunities within the creative economy. Speaking on the development, Abudu emphasized that the initiative is more than just a physical space, describing it as “a home for African creatives in the diaspora and a bridge connecting talent from Africa to the rest of the world.” She added that the hub would foster collaboration, innovation, and access to global markets, noting that “the time has come for African stories to take their rightful place at the center of global conversations.” EbonyLife Place London is expected to host film screenings, industry events, training programmes, and business incubation initiatives aimed at nurturing emerging talent while supporting established creators. The facility will also provide networking opportunities for stakeholders across film, television, fashion, and digital media. Industry analysts say the move signals a strategic expansion of EbonyLife’s footprint beyond Nigeria and reinforces the growing global appetite for African content. By establishing a permanent presence in one of the world’s leading creative capitals, the brand is positioning itself as a key player in shaping how African stories are produced, distributed, and consumed internationally. The launch marks another milestone in EbonyLife’s evolution from a Nigerian-based media company into a globally recognized creative powerhouse, underscoring Abudu’s vision of building platforms that not only tell African stories but also empower the people behind them.
