Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

…“Your page must have at least five active videos. Videos can be on-demand or previously live, but this does not include active crossposted videos.”

Meta’s new in-stream advertisement features for creators to get monetised is set to benefit Nigerians with large followings on Facebook or Instagram.

Creators who are eligible for this feature must meet several requirements. According to the tech giant, some general requirements include: “Pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation policies, be at least 18 years old and reside in a country that is eligible for in-stream ads.

The firm also noted that there are several requirements to earn from video-on-demand. “Creators must have at least 5,000 followers. They must also have 60,000 total minutes viewed in the last 60 days. This can include on-demand live or previously live videos. This, however, does not include minutes viewed from crossposted, boosted or paid watch time,” it said.

“Your page must have at least five active videos. Videos can be on-demand or previously live, but this does not include active crossposted videos.”

Importantly, to keep your eligibility for monetisation, you must continue to meet eligibility requirements, or you may lose access to in-stream ads. Meta noted eligibility requirements for live videos and that creators must have a minimum of 10,000 followers. They must have 600,000 total minutes viewed in the last 60 days, with at least 60,000 of the 600,000 total minutes viewed from live videos.

Additionally, pages must have at least five active videos, including at least three previously live videos created. This does not include active crossposted videos.

Finally, Meta noted that to earn from ads on Facebook Reels, creators must create high-quality original reel content, be over 18 years old, be a creator using pages or professional mode, pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s partner monetisation policies and content monetisation policies and ultimately, be invited to the program.
