Speaker’s Wife, Fatima Abbas, Empowers Widows, Vulnerable People In Zaria
Hajiya Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has through her Foundation, provided money, healthcare services, wrappers and bags of rice to widows, orphanages and other vulnerable groups in Zaria, Kaduna State, in a bid to ameliorate their sufferings.
The wife of the Speaker through her Foundation, Fatima Tajudeen Abbas Foundation provided the succour through embarking on series of empowerment programmes targeted at the down-trodden and the less privileged inline with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
Speaking at the four -day event which took place recently at the Emir of Zazzau’s Palace, Zaria, she explained that the objective of the Foundation was to provide adequate and quality healthcare services to all Nigerians, as well as render humanitarian services geared towards the eradication of poverty and illiteracy, creation of jobs and acquisition of skills for the empowerment of youths, women, widows, children, the homeless, orphans, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable persons in the society.
She however, noted that effective capacity building is dependent on system strengthening through collaborations and sustainable partnerships with relevant local and international stakeholders, such as the government, private sector, local and foreign non-profit organisations, philanthropists, traditional rulers, religious leaders, academia, the media, security personnel and the general public.
As part of efforts geared towards ameliorating the plight of the less privileged in the society, she disbursed over N3million to some selected widows in Kaduna.
In the same vein, she distributed bags of rice to the vulnerable and adorned widows and vulnerable individuals by distributing over 1,500 exquisite wrappers (atampa) to them.
The wife of the Speaker also shared a meal with the almajiri and gave them some bags of rice and shoes, as this gesture was accompanied by a generous distribution of N200,000 to them.
She also donated some bags of rice together with shoes to an orphanage home.
A medical out-reach that focused on most-prevailing health cases and conditions was carried out on individuals during the four-day event, as preliminary tests were conducted for malaria, hepatitis B and C, and in some rare cases RVS, the blood sugar and pressure of persons above 40 years was checked.
For her benevolent act of service, she was conferred with an Award of Excellence by the Student Union Government of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The unveiling of the Foundation was graced by dignitaries across Nigeria, including His Royal Highness Amb. (Malam) Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau Emirate in Zaria and his cabinet, members of the Emirate Council, legislators, wives of legislators, representatives of the Kaduna State Government, among others.
