Close associates and political allies of Seyi Makinde have hinted at the possible emergence of a new political platform as realignments and coalition talks continue to gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The development has fueled speculation about a broader movement involving influential opposition figures and dissatisfied politicians seeking an alternative platform outside the country’s dominant parties. Sources within Makinde’s political circle suggested that consultations are ongoing with stakeholders across several states over the creation of what they described as a “fresh national movement” capable of attracting younger voters and reform-minded politicians.
Although no official party name has been announced, insiders say discussions are centered on building a coalition focused on governance reforms, economic restructuring, institutional independence, and stronger grassroots participation. The proposed platform is also reportedly being positioned as a response to growing public dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s current political landscape.
Makinde himself has not formally confirmed plans to join or lead a new party, but recent comments from some of his loyalists have intensified political conversations within the opposition camp. Analysts believe the move could reshape alliances within the People’s Democratic Party and influence negotiations among opposition blocs ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The talks are coming at a time when several political actors across the country are exploring mergers, strategic partnerships, and coalition-building efforts aimed at strengthening their chances in 2027. Observers say any new political formation backed by influential governors and national figures could significantly alter Nigeria’s political equation in the coming years.
