The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed the official host country agreement for the Intra-African Trade Fair 2027, paving the way for Lagos to host one of the continent’s largest trade and investment gatherings. The event is projected to attract more than 100,000 participants, including business leaders, investors, policymakers and entrepreneurs from across Africa and beyond.
The host agreement formalizes Nigeria’s commitment to organize the large-scale trade fair, which aims to promote intra-African trade, strengthen economic partnerships and provide a platform for African businesses to showcase their products and services to a global audience. The fair is widely regarded as a major economic and networking opportunity that could significantly boost trade activities across the continent.
Government officials said hosting the trade fair represents a strategic move to position Nigeria as a central hub for commerce, tourism and investment in Africa. “The Intra-African Trade Fair is a powerful platform for connecting African businesses and unlocking new economic opportunities,” an official involved in the agreement said. “Nigeria is proud to host the 2027 edition and demonstrate its capacity to drive trade and collaboration across the continent.”
Organizers expect the event to bring together thousands of exhibitors and trade delegations from African countries, multinational corporations, financial institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition to exhibitions and trade deals, the program will include high-level business forums, investment sessions, cultural showcases and networking events designed to facilitate partnerships and economic cooperation.
Officials noted that the expected influx of more than 100,000 visitors could also provide a major boost to Lagos’ hospitality and tourism sectors, with hotels, transport services, restaurants and local businesses anticipated to benefit from the surge in international and regional visitors.
A representative involved in the planning said the event would highlight the opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement. “The trade fair is an important platform to translate the vision of AfCFTA into real business deals,” the representative said. “It allows African businesses to meet, negotiate and build partnerships that strengthen the continent’s economic integration.”
The Intra-African Trade Fair 2027 is expected to feature large exhibition spaces, business-to-business meetings, policy dialogues and investment presentations aimed at unlocking billions of dollars in trade and investment opportunities. Previous editions of the trade fair have attracted thousands of exhibitors and generated significant trade deals, reinforcing its reputation as one of Africa’s leading trade events.
Authorities in Lagos said preparations will begin in collaboration with national and international partners to ensure that the event meets global standards and delivers long-term economic benefits for Nigeria and the wider African market. Organizers said further details on venue arrangements, participation guidelines and event schedules will be announced as planning for the 2027 fair progresses.
